Ziverdo Kit: complete guide

Everything you should know before using Ziverdo Kit — what each medicine does, how the pack is usually taken, who should avoid it, and what the research actually shows. Written for patients and reviewed by a clinician.

What is Ziverdo Kit?

Ziverdo Kit is a combination pack made in India that bundles three separately packaged medicines: ivermectin 12 mg dispersible tablets (an antiparasitic), doxycycline 100 mg capsules (a tetracycline-class antibiotic) and zinc acetate 50 mg tablets (a mineral supplement).

Each component is an established medicine on its own. The kit simply packages them together so a prescriber can direct a short course from one box. It is not a single combined pill — each strip is taken on its own schedule.

Composition & kit contents

A standard kit contains 27 units across three strips. Pack counts can vary by batch, so always check the outer box.

Uses of Ziverdo Kit

Ziverdo Kit is prescribed in some countries for selected parasitic and bacterial infections where a clinician wants these medicines used together. In the United States, each ingredient has its own FDA-approved uses:

  • Ivermectin (oral): strongyloidiasis of the intestinal tract and onchocerciasis (river blindness). Doctors also prescribe it off-label for scabies and some other parasites.
  • Doxycycline: respiratory tract infections, Lyme disease, chlamydia and other STIs, acne, rickettsial infections, anthrax and malaria prevention.
  • Zinc acetate: zinc deficiency; prescription zinc acetate is also used for Wilson’s disease maintenance.

How Ziverdo Kit works

Ivermectin binds to glutamate-gated chloride channels in the nerve and muscle cells of parasites, paralyzing and killing them. These channels are not present in human nerve cells in the same way, which is why the medicine is selective at approved doses.

Doxycycline binds the 30S ribosomal subunit of bacteria and blocks protein production, which stops bacteria from growing and multiplying.

Zinc is a cofactor for hundreds of enzymes, including those involved in immune cell function and wound healing. Supplementation helps mainly when a person is deficient.

Dosage

Your prescriber sets the dose and duration. Ivermectin is dosed by body weight (commonly about 200 mcg/kg as a single dose for strongyloidiasis), doxycycline is typically 100 mg once or twice daily, and zinc is usually taken once daily.

Never take ivermectin products made for animals. Veterinary formulations are highly concentrated and have caused serious poisonings.

How to take Ziverdo Kit

  • Ivermectin: disperse in water or swallow on an empty stomach with water, usually as a single dose or as directed.
  • Doxycycline: swallow whole with a full glass of water and stay upright for at least 30 minutes to avoid throat irritation. It can be taken with food if it upsets your stomach.
  • Zinc: take at least 2–3 hours apart from doxycycline, because zinc binds doxycycline and reduces absorption.
  • Complete the full antibiotic course even if you feel better.

Side effects

Most side effects are mild and pass on their own. Contact your doctor if they persist.
Component Common Serious — seek care

Precautions & who should avoid it

  • Pregnancy and breastfeeding — doxycycline is generally avoided.
  • Children under 8 — doxycycline can permanently stain developing teeth.
  • Allergy to tetracyclines, ivermectin or any excipient.
  • Liver disease, or a history of Loa loa infection (risk of serious reactions with ivermectin).
  • Prolonged sun exposure — use sunscreen and protective clothing during doxycycline treatment.

Drug interactions

Tell your prescriber about all medicines and supplements you take. Important interactions include:

  • Warfarin and other anticoagulants — both ivermectin and doxycycline can increase bleeding risk.
  • Antacids, iron, calcium, magnesium and zinc — reduce doxycycline absorption; separate doses.
  • Isotretinoin — combined with doxycycline raises the risk of intracranial hypertension.
  • Barbiturates, carbamazepine, phenytoin — can reduce doxycycline levels.
  • Alcohol — may increase dizziness and stomach side effects.

Missed dose & overdose

If you miss a doxycycline or zinc dose, take it when you remember unless it is nearly time for the next one. Do not double up.

Signs of ivermectin overdose include vomiting, unsteadiness, confusion, drowsiness and seizures. Call Poison Control at 1-800-222-1222 or emergency services immediately.

Storage

Store below 30 °C (86 °F) in a dry place, in the original packaging, away from light and out of reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date printed on each strip.

Ziverdo Kit and COVID-19: what the evidence says

Ziverdo Kit was widely marketed in India during the pandemic for COVID-19. That use is not supported by current evidence.

Large randomized controlled trials — TOGETHER (NEJM, 2022), ACTIV-6 (JAMA, 2022) and PRINCIPLE (2024) — found that ivermectin did not meaningfully reduce hospitalization or speed recovery. The FDA has not approved or authorized ivermectin to prevent or treat COVID-19, and doxycycline, as an antibiotic, does not treat viral infections.

We do not sell Ziverdo Kit as a COVID-19 treatment. If you have COVID-19 symptoms, speak to your doctor about approved antiviral options.
